NE Indiana Lake And River Projects Awarded Funding

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Several lake and river treatment projects around Northeast Indiana are receiving state funding.

Indiana State Senator Sue Glick of LaGrange, says the money for the projects in Senate District 13 is coming from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Lake And River Enhancement Program.

LARE announced funding for the following projects: In LaGrange County Fish and Royer Lakes ($40,000); Witmer Lake ($33,000); Little Elkhart and North Branch Elkhart River ($23,000); along with Oliver, Olin and Martin Lakes ($32,000).

In DeKalb County, the St. Joseph River is receiving $200,000.

The money for the Fish and Royer Lakes along with the Oliver, Olin and Martin Lakes will be used for engineering feasibility studies. Witmer Lake funds are going towards a lake diagnostic study; while the Little Elkhart and North Branch Elkhart River is going towards watershed land treatment.

The St. Joseph River funds will be put towards streambank stabilization.
