(ALBION) – Central Noble Community Schools voters turned down an operational referendum on Tuesday.
The Noble County Clerk’s Office says 1,333 individuals voted on Tuesday with 764 voting NO on the referendum and 569 voting YES. The operational referendum was asking to increase property taxes by $.19 per $100 of net assessed value. That means each household would have been paying $15.64 more per month in taxes. That comes out to an annual increase of $187.72 per household.
Central Noble Schools officials say they were asking for the referendum after losing a combined $2.4 million in State funding, which according to school officials, is now going to voucher programs and not public school districts.
With those loses, Central Noble officials say they may be facing staffing, program and transportation cuts in the future.
