(INDIANAPOLIS) – There’s been a change to Indiana’s parental leave policy.
On Monday, Governor Mike Braun signed an executive order that calls for women to have at least six weeks of leave after giving birth. Those who deliver via C-section will be eligible for eight weeks of leave.
All full time employees may receive 150 hours of parental leave following the birth or adoption of a child.
The policy will be in place for all State employees regardless of how long they have been employed by the State. The executive order also calls for paid leave for those grieving the loss of a baby in utero at 20 weeks or later.
In a statement, Braun says that strong families are the cornerstone of strong communities, and it’s so important for a family to have quality time to care for their newest member. Braun says he believes employers should do everything they can to accommodate the needs of new parents and with this executive order he is setting an example by strengthening Indiana’s polices for paid parental leave, childbirth recovery leave and paid leave for those facing the tragedy of losing a baby.
