(GARRETT, IN) – A suspect has been arrested following a two county pursuit.
Indiana State Police say at 9:30 PM Friday, a Trooper attempted to stop a vehicle on State Road 327 near Warfield Street in Garrett. The suspect vehicle was allegedly being driven without any tail lights.
The trooper turned on his emergency lights and siren, but the suspect continued south on State Road 327 to County Road 56. The suspect disregarded a road closed sign, and headed east on County Road 56 before making a U-turn and going north back on State Road 327.
A second trooper joined the pursuit and his patrol car was crashed into by the suspect vehicle. Stopsticks were successfully put down, striking two tires on the suspect vehicle, but it kept going north on State Road 327 through Garrett and then west on State Road 8 towards Noble County. As the pursuit entered Noble County, local and county officers were deployed and put down more stopsticks, which took out two more tires entering the town of Avilla.
Near the intersection of County Road 100 North and County Road 900 East, the trooper who had his car struck initiated a series of Precision Immobilization Techniques, disabling the suspect vehicle into a side ditch.
The driver, 43 year old Dusty Dawkins of Fort Wayne, refused to get out of the vehicle but was eventually removed. He was taken to DeKalb Parkview Hospital and once cleared medically he was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
Dawkins is facing preliminary felony charges of resisting law enforcement vehicular; resisting law enforcement with injury; obstructing justice; operating while intoxicated and possession of cocaine.
In addition Dawkins is facing misdemeanor charges of operating with a controlled substance; operating while intoxicated endangering and leaving the scene of a crash.
