(INDIANAPOLIS) – Indiana’s statewide unemployment rate rose slightly from May to June.
According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the unemployment rate in the Hoosier State went up from 3.7% in May to 3.8% in June. That’s still below the National unemployment for June, which was 4.1%.
Indiana’s labor force participation rate remained at 62.4% for June, remaining slightly below the national rate of 62.6%. This rate is the percentage of Hoosiers 16 and older that are either working or actively looking for work.
Indiana’s total labor force stands at 3,378,707, which is an increase of 1,527 from the previous month.
Private sector employment in Indiana increased by 5,100 jobs over the last month. In June of 2024 the Hoosier State saw a gain of 41,900 jobs over this time last year in 2023. Indiana's June private employment stands at 2,854,800.
Industries that experienced job increases in June included: Private Educational & Health Services (+ 3,600); Construction (+1,700); Leisure and Hospitality (+1,600); and Professional and Business Services (+1,100).
