MATTESON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Some comments misinterpreted last week were clarified Monday.
During a town hall meeting last week, U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg was asked about what’s going on with the Gaza and Ukraine conflicts. Walberg answered that they both should get over quick, like the U.S. did to end World War II with Hiroshima and Nagasaki, then humanitarian aid can begin for those regions.
Many in the national media took that to mean that nuclear weapons should be used to bring an end to the current conflicts.
Monday morning, Walberg held a town hall meeting at the Matteson Township Hall north of Bronson. He explained in detail what he meant with those comments.
Walberg says he was not saying the U.S. should use nuclear weapons, but this conflict needs to come to an end quickly, just like it did to end World War II. While there were horrific results on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Walberg says it stopped the war and it didn’t drag on.
Walberg says the sooner that Hamas and Russia surrender in these conflicts, the easier it will be to move forward.
