INDIANA - The majority of Indiana and the southern boarder of Michigan have been declared to be abnormally dry by the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Abnormally dry areas are often areas that may be going into or are coming out of drought.
Dry weather increases outdoor fire hazards. The following tips can help reduce the possibility of outdoor fires.
Never leave barbecues or other outdoor cooking appliances unattended and have a metal drip pan underneath to catch fallen embers or hot grease.
Park on paved surfaces when possible as exhaust systems on vehicles can easily ignite dry grass.
Clear away grass that collects around lawnmower engines because worn out lawnmower mufflers can emit sparks and also allow lawnmowers to cool before refueling.
Never discard cigarettes or matched outside of car windows.
The Angola Fire Department also added information regarding bonfires.
The AFD noted fires must be 40 feet from any structures, they should be contained in a pit fire ring, and to always keep a fire house or bucket of water nearby.
The Angola Fire Department also wanted to remind Angola residents living in town should fill out a burn permit which can be found of the Angola Fire Department's website.
