(COLDWATER) – Two people have been named the finalists for the position of Branch County Treasurer.

Steven Rutz of Coldwater and Debra Bracy of Quincy have been selected as the finalists out of five people who applied for the position. They were chosen Monday by a three person committee made up of Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien, Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak and Probate Court Judge Kirk Kashian.

The committee will interview both Rutz and Bracy Friday morning.

Julie Waterbury resigned September 24 as Branch County Treasurer after she was hired as the Chief Financial Officer for the Grand Ledge Community Schools. She was elected in November 2020.

Whoever is appointed by the Committee will finish out Waterbury's term, which is until the end of 2022. The Treasurer position will be on the 2022 August Primary Election ballot and the November 2022 General Election ballot. The person who is appointed could choose to run for their own term in 2022.
