CONSTANTINE – Voters will decide whether recreational marijuana will be allowed in the Village of Constantine.
Residents are being asked to go to the polls Tuesday to vote on one item. The question is whether or not an ordinance allowing recreational marijuana to be sold can stay on the books or be removed. A “YES” vote means that the ordinance, as it is written, will be repealed 10 days after the election, and allow only medical marijuana to be sold by licensed businesses in Constantine. A “NO” vote would keep the ordinance as it is, and make it possible to sell recreational marijuana.
The amendment to the Village Ordinance was approved in 2020 by the Constantine Village Council. Licensed marijuana businesses are watching the vote carefully. A YES vote for the referendum could cause their businesses to suffer, which would me a loss of tax revenue back to the Village. Presently, there are seven medical marijuana licenses and seven recreational marijuana license that have been granted by the Village of Constantine.
Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 AM until 8 PM at the Constantine Township Library.
