CONSTANTINE TOWNSHIP – A 56 year old Constantine man is behind bars following a police chase.
St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says his deputies attempted to stop a pick up Monday at 5 PM because the driver was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant. The vehicle was on Stears Road near U.S. 131 in Constantine Township and drove away at a high rate of speed.
The pursuit went to the area of North River Road near Klett Road, where the suspect drove into a wooded area and crashed into a tree. He then ran away, but was later located by a Three Rivers Police K-9 Officer. The suspect was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail and is being held on the outstanding warrant. Charges are also pending for the police pursuit.
Assisting deputies were the White Pigeon and Constantine Police Departments, and the Michigan State Police.
