(UNDATED) – Storms that moved through Northeast Indiana and Southwest Michigan Sunday afternoon did some damage.
According to Steuben County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Meeks, the storms knocked down power lines, trees and did damage to several buildings, with the largest concentration of damage occurring in the Pleasant Lake area of Steuben Township.
Meeks says the Sheriff's Communications paged out crews from Ashley-Hudson Fire, Metz Fire, Steuben Township Fire, Hamilton Fire, Orland Fire, and Salem Township Fire for weather watch. Steuben County Emergency Management was also requested to assist with damage assessments.
Sheriff's deputies responded to several reports of trees down in the roadway along with some power lines down including damage to some utility poles. There were also reports of trees falling onto at least ten houses on Long Lake Road west of County Road 150 West, a shed blowing away on County Road 150 West near Waymire Road, and a barn partially collapsed on County Road 350 South. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
In the area of County Road 200 East and Metz Rd in southern Scott Township, the roof was blown off of a small barn and the roadway signs were taken down. The Steuben County Highway Department quickly responded and began clearing the downed trees that were blocking roadways. The effected power companies were also contacted as well as the Red Cross.
Anyone needing to report storm damaged is asked to contact the Steuben County Emergency Management Agency at 260-668-1000 Extension 3400. Residents may also contact 211 for assistance.
