(ANGOLA) - Members of Angola’s Common Council are discussing rate increases for water and wastewater services. On Monday, Jeff Rowe of Baker Tilly Advisors reported that current financial reports show Angola water services have $250,000 surplus of revenue and wastewater and sewage services has $579,000 in revenue over expenditures. However, the city plans $6.4-million-dollars in capital expenditures on facility improvements, and current rates will not keep up with those costs. Tilly recommended a 29% increase for water and a 14% increase for wastewater starting in 2026. Angola Mayor Dave Martin suggested that rate increases be spread out over time and removed if tax changes or other economic factors make that possible. Martin said any increases would not likely start until the second quarter of next year, following three public hearings on the issue. Angola’s Common Council meets next on November 17th at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
