FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WLKI)- Trine University's Brooks College of Health Professions will host an event next month for prospective students and others interested in learning more about careers in occupational therapy.
The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Trine's Brooks College of Health Professions facility, 12817 Parkview Plaza Drive in Fort Wayne.
Participants will be able to meet occupational therapy faculty members and current students, tour the facility and learn about the application and admission process for Trine's Doctor of Occupational Therapy program.
Jamesdean Visley, director of Trine's occupational therapy program, said the event will give visitors a closer look at a field centered on helping people build or regain skills needed for everyday life.
"Occupational therapy is an incredibly rewarding profession," Visley said. "Practitioners work every day to help people of all ages develop the skills to live full, independent lives."
Trine's entry-level doctoral occupational therapy program launched in 2025. The program includes five integrated clinical experiences before students begin a 24-week full-time rotation, according to the university.
The curriculum also includes interdisciplinary instruction, lab experiences and interactive learning designed to prepare students for real-world practice.
Students who complete the program will be prepared to take the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy examination once the program completes its accreditation process.
Trine's program has been granted Preaccreditation Status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education. The university said the program must complete an on-site evaluation and receive full accreditation before graduates are eligible to take the national certification examination.
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited school and a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0.
