AUBURN, Ind. (WLKI) - A rare 1909 Auburn was among the historic vehicles featured during this year's Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival.
The burgundy two-cylinder Auburn belongs to Tom and Jill LeMin Lee of Pennsylvania. Tom Lee says only about a dozen two-cylinder Auburns are believed to still exist.
The vehicle was the oldest car on this year's Hoosier Tour and also appeared in Saturday's Parade of Classics and the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club's annual car show.
Lee found the car in Columbia, Illinois, and brought it home to Pennsylvania. He says the vehicle has remained largely in the same condition since it was restored decades ago, although he has completed minor mechanical work, installed new tires and found period-correct brass lamps.
The 1909 Auburn uses right-hand steering and has pedals for low gear, reverse and braking. A hand lever is used to engage high gear.
Lee says the two-cylinder engine produces about 24 horsepower and the car is most comfortable traveling around 30 miles per hour. The vehicle was featured by The Star.
