LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WLKI)- Two Howe residents are facing felony charges following an investigation into serious injuries sustained by an infant.
Indiana State Police said the investigation began July 17, 2026, after the infant was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. The LaGrange County Sheriff's Office requested assistance after receiving information about the nature of the injuries, and Indiana State Police detectives took the lead in the case.
The results of the investigation were submitted to the LaGrange County Prosecutor's Office, which filed charges and obtained arrest warrants.
Twenty-year-old Spencer Slentz of Howe was arrested August 21 on one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in catastrophic injury, a Level 1 felony.
Nineteen-year-old Paige Barrett of Howe was arrested August 28 on the same charge.
State police said the investigation remains ongoing. No additional information about the infant's injuries or medical condition is being released at this time.
Both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
