(FREMONT) - Opposition to a possible Steuben County casino is calling for more public input before voters decide the issue in November.

Theresa Steele is with the Coalition for a Better Steuben County, which opposes bringing a casino to Steuben County.

She spoke about the issue after Tuesday night's Fremont Plan Commission meeting.

The meeting drew a large crowd, but a rezone discussion involving a possible casino site near Walters Lake did not move forward as expected.

Fremont Town Attorney Kurt Bachman warned Plan Commission members not to take public input because the issue was not before them as a formal hearing.

The Plan Commission later voted unanimously to recommend an immediate one-year moratorium involving casino zoning, data centers and battery storage facilities.

Steele said residents need forums, hearings and real opportunities to provide input before decisions move forward.

Steuben County voters will decide the casino referendum in November.
