(ANGOLA) - Two Trine University esports competitors received individual honors as the university wrapped up its spring esports season.

Jonah Kyle, a computer science and information technology major from Valparaiso, received the Forge Scholastic Esports Championship 2026 Uncommon Player Award at the first ECAC National Founders Invitational, held May 15-17 in San Antonio, Texas.

Kyle, a member of Trine's Overwatch team, was recognized among players from leagues represented at the Founders Invitational.

In presenting the award, ECAC Esports said Kyle showed "mental fortitude through difficulties with tech, tournaments and facing off against a David Goliath story" while maintaining a positive attitude and supporting his teammates.

Trine's Overwatch team competed against Purdue, the University of Delaware and Northwood University during the event. The invitational featured the top four teams in each title based on fall and spring season performance.

Jeremy Goossens, Trine's director of esports, said the university's players represented the program well throughout the competition.

In addition to Kyle, Trine's Overwatch team included Hudson Kelly of LaGrange, Logan Gault of Indianapolis, Elton Langley of Indianapolis and Brockstan Tschannen of Angola.

Meanwhile, Wyatt Burton, a computer science and information technology major from Edinburgh, was named the Cleanest Driver in the Collegiate iRacing League this season.

Burton averaged 262.7 turns per incident point during league competition. An incident point can result from an event as simple as dropping a wheel off the track.

He finished second overall in the Collegiate iRacing League standings, two points behind Jake Cummings of Converse University.
