(INDIANAPOLIS) - Certain packages of Kroger Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons are being recalled because of a potential salmonella contamination risk.

The recall involves specific lots of 5-ounce pouches of Kroger Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons with UPC code 0 11110 81353 4. The products were distributed to Kroger stores between March 7 and April 7, including stores in Indiana and several other states.

According to Sugar Foods LLC, the recall was prompted by concerns involving milk powder used in the product. The milk powder was supplied through an ingredient chain that was previously linked to a separate recall. The company said the action is being taken out of an abundance of caution.

Affected products carry use-by dates ranging from Feb. 17, 2027, through April 7, 2027.

No illnesses related to the recalled croutons have been reported.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Consumers who have the recalled croutons are advised not to eat them and should discard the product or contact Sugar Foods LLC for additional information
