(INDIANA) - An Indiana State Police K9 now has added protection on the job thanks to a charitable donation.
K9 Enzo has received a bullet- and stab-protective vest from the nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vest was sponsored by Kurt and Sherry Riecken of New Haven and includes the message, "Born to Love-Trained to Serve-Loyal Always."
Vested Interest in K9s is a national nonprofit that provides protective gear to law enforcement dogs. The vests are custom-fitted, made in the U.S., and certified to national safety standards.
Since 2009, the organization has provided more than 6,300 vests to K9s across all 50 states, valued at nearly $7 million.
The program is open to certified law enforcement dogs at least 20 months old, including those in need of replacement vests.
