(STEUBEN COUNTY) - Republican sheriff candidate Mike Meeks has received the endorsement of retired Putnam County Sheriff Scott Stockton.
In announcing the endorsement, Meeks said support from former sheriffs and law enforcement leaders continues to build around his campaign for Steuben County Sheriff.
Stockton said Meeks has the law enforcement experience and leadership background needed to lead the sheriff's office, pointing to his years of service and command experience.
Meeks currently serves as Steuben County's Chief Deputy and says he has worked every rank in the department since joining at age 21, from jail officer and detective to day-to-day leadership of the office since 2019.
He has also previously announced that Rich McCarty, a veteran deputy and 2013 Deputy of the Year, would serve as chief deputy if Meeks is elected. The campaign says Meeks is focusing on transparency, constitutional policing and community-rooted leadership as the race moves forward.
