(WARSAW) - Some NIPSCO customers in Warsaw went nearly 18 hours without electricity after a power failure knocked out service during the utility's ongoing labor lockout, according to WNDU.
Residents report hearing a loud boom Monday morning, then found a utility pole snapped and power lines down, leaving homes without electricity through the night.
Neighbors say crews did not arrive for hours, and power was not restored until about 6 a.m. Tuesday, nearly 18 hours after the outage began.
The outage comes about two weeks after NIPSCO locked out nearly 1,600 workers represented by the United Steelworkers, many of them lineworkers who normally respond to outages and emergencies.
Union representatives say talks with the utility are continuing, but there is still no timetable for a resolution to the labor dispute
