(BUNKER HILL) - A detainee held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has died at a state prison in north-central Indiana, according to the Indiana Capital Chronicle.
Officials said Lorth Sim, 59, a Cambodian national, was found unresponsive in his cell Monday morning at Miami Correctional Facility and was pronounced dead despite emergency medical efforts. The cause of death remains under investigation.
The prison began housing ICE detainees in October under a federal agreement that allows up to 1,000 immigration detainees to be held at the facility.
ICE officials said required notifications were made to oversight agencies and the Cambodian consulate. State officials have called for a thorough review of the incident.
