(HILLSDALE) - A woman suffered serious injuries Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a county utility vehicle while crossing a downtown street.

The crash occurred at the intersection of McMollum Street and North Broad Street, where a Ford F-Series utility truck traveling westbound on McMollum turned south onto North Broad and hit the pedestrian in a marked crosswalk, according to investigators.

Emergency responders initially transported the woman to a local hospital. She was later airlifted to a hospital in Toledo, Ohio, for further treatment.

Her age and hometown were not immediately released.

Michigan State Police troopers assisted local officers at the scene. Authorities said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.

The intersection remained closed for a time as investigators examined the scene, and motorists were urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
