(MERRILLVILLE) - Northern Indiana Public Service Company is now accepting applications for its 2026 Environmental Action Grant, offering funding to local organizations working on environmental projects across NIPSCO's service area.

The annual grant program, supported by the NiSource Charitable Foundation, provides financial support for environmental education, conservation, and restoration initiatives. Now in its 11th year, the program has awarded about $700,000 to nearly 170 projects throughout northern Indiana.

Last year, 26 local organizations received grants ranging from $500 to $5,000. NIPSCO officials say the program is designed to help protect natural resources, strengthen communities, and deliver long-term environmental and social benefits.

NiSource, NIPSCO's parent company, expanded the Environmental Action Grant program in 2026 to include operating companies in several other states, including Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky.

Grant recipients in past years have gone on to form long-term partnerships with NIPSCO, including environmental restoration efforts in northwest Indiana.

Local organizations interested in applying for the 2026 Environmental Action Grant can find application details and eligibility requirements through NIPSCO's community and foundation resources.
