(ALBION) - Indiana State Police have been asked to investigate the death of an inmate at the Noble County Jail over the weekend.
According to the Noble County Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday, February 7, 2026. Indiana State Police Investigations Bureau detectives were requested to the jail after an inmate experienced what authorities described as a medical emergency shortly after being received into custody.
Jail staff immediately began lifesaving measures and Parkview EMS was called to the scene, but those efforts were unsuccessful. The inmate was pronounced dead at the jail.
Officials said there is no indication of foul play at this time. The Noble County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy and confirm the identity of the deceased.
The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information has been released.
