(LAKELAND) – Up 21-0 at halftime, the host Lakeland football team held on to beat South Bend St. Joseph 21-20 in the season opener for both teams. The Lakers had a balanced attack offensively with 138 yards rushing and 132 yards passing. Brayden Holbrook was 16 of 26 for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns. Keyan Arroyo in addition to running the ball and making some big catches, also had a 58 yard interception return for a touchdown. LINKC. Carson Mickem led the ground game with 16 carries for 75 yards, and 2 receptions for 30 yards. Drannon Miller had 10 tackles on the night while Isaiah Weingartner had 5 tackles. Penalties and turnovers hurt the Huskies who had 4 turnovers in the game. Lakeland is 1-0 and will travel to Churubusco next Friday night.
