(INDIANA) - Indiana drivers will soon have a new way to support pollinator conservation with the launch of a "Protect Pollinators" specialty license plate.

The plate has been approved for sale in Indiana and will raise money for efforts to protect bees, butterflies, and native plants across the state. The design features native butterflies, bees, and wildflowers, highlighting Indiana's role as part of the central migratory corridor for monarch butterflies and as important habitat for many pollinator species.

The plate was made possible through a grassroots petition campaign that gathered more than 1,200 signatures statewide in just one week, exceeding the number required for approval.

Beginning January 1, 2026, Indiana motorists will be able to order the Protect Pollinators plate through the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The plate will cost $40 per year, with $25 from each purchase or renewal going directly toward pollinator conservation efforts in Indiana. The remaining cost covers administrative fees.

Drivers will be able to purchase the plate online during registration or renewal through myBMV, at BMV Connect kiosks during registration transactions, or in person at any BMV branch. The plate may also be added outside of the normal renewal period.

Funds raised through plate sales will be managed by Pollinator Partnership, a nonprofit organization focused on pollinator protection. The money will support habitat creation, conservation education, native planting projects, and training opportunities across Indiana.

Organizers say the program is designed to provide visible support for pollinator conservation while generating long-term funding for projects that benefit both wildlife and communities statewide.
