(FORT WAYNE) - The Fort Wayne Zoo is asking the community to help keep one of its most beloved attractions on track.

Zoo officials have launched the "All Aboard!" campaign to fund major upgrades to the Zoo's train, which has been sidelined repeatedly this season as its aging equipment struggles to keep running. Zoo leaders say the train engine is nearly 60 years old -- original to the Zoo -- and replacement parts are becoming increasingly difficult to find. As a result, the train is nearing retirement unless upgrades are made. The Zoo hopes to raise $600,000 to modernize the attraction, including installing a new electric engine. The goal is to complete the upgrades in time for next season. Officials say the train is more than just a ride -- it's a tradition. Thousands of children ride it every year, and it's a key part of the Zoo experience for families. Zoo leaders say donations will help preserve memories, strengthen family visits, and support the Zoo's mission of connecting kids with animals. More information about the campaign is available on the Fort Wayne Zoo's website.
