(DEKALB & ALLEN COUNTIES) - Thousands of Indiana Michigan Power customers were left in the dark Tuesday after a major outage affected parts of Allen and DeKalb counties. I & M reports more than 4,700 customers lost electricity from the Leo-Cedarville area north to Auburn. The outage was first reported around 9:30 Tuesday morning, with restoration initially expected by mid-afternoon. Company officials say downed power lines caused a substation outage. Crews were dispatched to isolate the damage and begin repairs. By noon, power had already been restored to about 2,000 customers. A separate outage also affected parts of Fort Wayne, with around 155 residents in the Deerfield Estates area off Illinois Road losing power just after 10 a.m. That outage was restored by 1:55 p.m. Tuesday.
