MARENGO TOWNSHIP (WLKI) - Two men were killed Tuesday morning after they were hit by a semi-truck while checking a flat tire along Interstate 94 east of Marshall.

Michigan State Police troopers from the Marshall Post were called to eastbound I-94 near 22-and-a-half Mile Road in Marengo Township around 9 a.m.

Investigators say the two men were standing on the shoulder beside a truck when an eastbound semi struck them.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims were identified as a 51-year-old man from Grabill, Indiana, and a 40-year-old man from Aurora, Illinois. Their names have not been released.

Police say the driver of the truck with the flat tire remained inside the vehicle during the crash and was not injured.

The semi rolled after the collision. Its driver was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries, according to Michigan State Police.

Eastbound I-94 was closed at Exit 115 while emergency crews responded. Authorities say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Michigan State Police are continuing to investigate.
