Indiana Gas Prices Plunge, Poised to Stay Low Through the Holidays

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Gas prices across Indiana continue to fall, and experts say the trend should hold as long as refineries keep operating smoothly.

Prices in some major cities are now averaging around $2.80 a gallon, down more than 15 cents in the past week and roughly 25 cents over the past month. Current prices are the lowest the state has seen since 2020. A key refinery in northwest Indiana is running efficiently, which is helping keep both gasoline and diesel prices down. Diesel costs, which recently jumped over $4 a gallon, are also trending lower. Analysts say Indiana may see a couple more "price cycles" before Christmas -- periods when stations rapidly undercut each other, then reset prices once profits get too tight. If refinery operations remain stable, most of Indiana is expected to stay under the $3-per-gallon mark heading into the holidays
