(SPRINGFIELD, IL) - Efforts to bring the Chicago Bears to northwest Indiana are facing a new hurdle.

The Illinois House has approved a measure known as the Megaprojects Bill, which would provide tax incentives for large-scale developments.

The proposal could support a potential stadium project in Arlington Heights, where the Bears own more than 300 acres at the former Arlington Park site.

Indiana leaders have previously explored building a stadium in Hammond as part of broader economic development efforts.

The Illinois legislation could strengthen efforts to keep the team in-state by improving the financial outlook for a stadium project there.

No final decision has been announced on the team's long-term stadium plans.
