(COLDWATER) - Branch County commissioners are considering whether to join Cass and St. Joseph counties in a joint application for up to $400,000 in state tornado recovery funding tied to the March 6 tornado outbreak.
The proposal before commissioners would allow the three counties to seek Michigan Strategic Fund CDBG Urgent Need financing to support continued disaster recovery work.
If approved, the money would help fund disaster case management services through the group "After the Storm," focused on housing stabilization and long-term recovery planning for affected residents.
Under the proposal, Cass County would serve as the lead applicant and fiduciary agent, while Branch County would formally join the regional request.
The resolution is expected to go before the Branch County Board of Commissioners this afternoon, presented by Deputy County Administrator and Finance Director Jessica Miller.
