(ANGOLA) -- "No Kings" demonstrations drew strong crowds across the area over the weekend, with large and peaceful rallies in both Angola and Coldwater.

In Angola, hundreds of people gathered around the Public Square in what appeared to be the city's largest rally yet--surpassing turnout from the previous protest.

Speakers at the Angola event included Kelly Thompson for Congress, Judy Rowe for state representative, and Steuben County Democrats Chairperson Ben Helmsing.

In Coldwater, more than 200 people turned out Saturday morning for a rally and march through downtown.

Democratic Fifth Congressional District candidate Christian Vukasovich addressed the crowd there, criticizing Trump administration policies and urging continued grassroots organizing.

Both events remained peaceful and were part of the wider nationwide "No Kings" movement, which held coordinated protests in communities across Indiana, Michigan and the country.

Organizers say the larger local turnout in both cities points to growing engagement as the movement continues to build in northeast Indiana and southern Michigan.
