(GEORGETOWN) - Toyota is investing $1 billion into its U.S. manufacturing operations, including a major expansion in southern Indiana.

The company announced the investment on the 40th anniversary of breaking ground on its Kentucky plant.

About $800 million will go toward upgrades in Georgetown, Kentucky, including preparing for a second electric vehicle and increasing production of the Camry and RAV4.

Another $200 million will be invested at Toyota's Princeton, Indiana plant to boost production of the Grand Highlander SUV.

Toyota says the investment reflects its long-term commitment to building vehicles where they are sold and expanding its electrification strategy.
