(INDIANAPOLIS) - Gasoline prices in Indiana jumped sharply this week, marking the third-largest increase in the country, according to AAA.
Officials say prices rose by as much as 20 cents per gallon overnight, pushing the statewide average for regular fuel to just under three dollars per gallon.
Experts say the spike is partly due to rising crude oil futures and the seasonal transition to more expensive summer fuel blends.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said the jump represents the largest single-day increase in U.S. gas prices since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
However, De Haan said he does not expect the national average price for gasoline to reach four dollars per gallon at this time.
AAA data shows nearly 30 states saw gas prices rise by at least 10 cents from Monday to Tuesday.
California continues to have the highest average gas price in the country at $4.67 per gallon.
Analysts say fuel prices could continue to fluctuate in the coming weeks as markets remain volatile.
