(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin says she is under federal investigation tied to a video she appeared in urging members of the military and intelligence community to follow the Constitution and refuse illegal orders.

Slotkin disclosed the probe this week, saying the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington, D.C., requested an interview related to the 90-second video released last November. The message featured Slotkin and several other Democratic lawmakers with military or intelligence backgrounds, including Mark Kelly, and called on service members to uphold the rule of law.

The investigation comes after sharp criticism from President Donald Trump and administration allies, who labeled the video "seditious" and suggested it could warrant criminal consequences.

Slotkin, a former CIA officer who served three tours in Iraq, said she learned of the inquiry through the Senate sergeant-at-arms. She described the probe as an attempt to intimidate political opponents, telling The New York Times the threat itself -- not the facts -- is the point.

The Justice Department has not confirmed what specific law, if any, is being examined. Slotkin said the scrutiny has coincided with increased security concerns, including a reported bomb threat at her Michigan property.

At least one other lawmaker who appeared in the video is also believed to be under federal review, as political tensions continue to escalate in Washington.
