(INDIANAPOLIS) - A former Indiana National Guardsman has been identified as the ICE agent who fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis earlier this week, according to reporting from 21 Alive.

Jonathan Ross shot and killed Renee Macklin Good on Wednesday in a central Minneapolis neighborhood a few blocks from Good's home.

Bystander video shows an agent approaching Good's vehicle, demanding she open the door and grabbing the handle. As Good began to pull forward, another ICE agent standing in front of the car drew his weapon and fired two shots into the vehicle at close range.

Ross served in the Indiana Army National Guard from 2002 to 2008 and was deployed to Iraq during that time. According to the Indiana National Guard, he received several military honors, including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal.

The shooting has triggered protests across the country, including a demonstration Thursday night in Fort Wayne.

The Trump administration has defended the shooting, citing a June incident involving Ross in which his arm became trapped in a car window while a driver allegedly fled an immigration-related arrest. Ross was dragged approximately 100 yards before freeing his arm.

Vice President J.D. Vance responded to the incident by calling Good a "victim of left-wing ideology," saying her death was tragic while also describing it as "a tragedy of her own making."
