Trine Women's Golf Finishes in a Tie for Third at MIAA Jamboree

The Trine University women's golf team finished in a three-way tie for third at the third of four scheduled Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournaments of the season. The single-round event was hosted at Trine at Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind.

St. Mary's (Ind.) College posted the lowest overall team score of 312 strokes and was followed by Hope (Mich.) College with a team score of 333 strokes. Trine, Calvin (Mich.) College and Olivet (Mich.) College all tied for third with 334 strokes.

Senior Lyndsey Welper (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) led the Thunder and placed third overall after firing a round of 75 strokes. Sophomore Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) was second with a round of 81 strokes and finished in the top-10 in eighth place.

Senior Mackenna Kelly (Angola, Ind./Angola) and freshman Maire Sullivan (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth) both shot rounds of 89 strokes to round out the team scoring. Junior Olivia Phillips (Muncie, Ind./Muncie) was a shot back of Kelly and Sullivan for fifth on the team with a score of 90 strokes.

Four Trine competitors played as individuals with freshman Lily Williamson (Colfax, Ind./Western Boone) posting the lowest round of the afternoon among the quartet at 90 strokes. Freshman Sophie Hollinger (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) was next with a score of 106 strokes and was followed by senior Morgan Barrasas (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) who carded a round of 107 strokes.

Freshman Anabelle Burkholder (Lima, Ohio/Bath) completed the field and shot a score of 111 strokes.

The Thunder are scheduled to compete again tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 3) in the final MIAA Jamboree hosted by Olivet at The Medalist Golf Course in Marshall, Mich. The round is slated to start at 1 p.m.
