(YORK TOWNSHIP) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a weekend shooting incident.
Steuben County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Meek says at 6:30 PM Saturday, deputies responded to the intersection of County Road 850 East and Metz Road in rural York Township for a reported shooting. A woman called and said she had just been shot at while inside her vehicle at a residence in the 8500 block of East Metz Road.
Deputies found the victim who was not injured. Her vehicle appeared to have damage from gunshots. Sheriff’s Detectives were called in to help with the investigation.
The woman said she had been called by 25 year old Skylar Alan Wilber of Angola to give him a ride. When the victim arrived at the residence, Wilber allegedly came outside upset and fired a handgun at the woman’s vehicle. The woman drove away and called authorities.
A search warrant was issued for the property and executed by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Special Response Team. As officers arrived at the scene, Wilber surrendered and was taken into custody.
A search of the residence was conducted and officers found suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia and evidence indicating that a firearm had been discharged.
Following an interview with Sheriff’s Detectives, Wilber was charged with a felony of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
He is being held in the Steuben County Jail with bond set at $6,500. The case is still being investigated.
