(BRUSHY PRAIRIE) – Authorities are investigating a threat made against Prairie Heights Schools.
In a post on the Prairie Heights School website, Superintendent Jeff Reed shared that on Saturday, school officials were made aware that a high school student made a threat of a potential shooting in front of other students.
The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and they are currently conducting an investigation. At this time, the student will remain out of school until the investigation is completed.
Reed says Prairie Heights Schools are open today. As a precaution, he has requested to have extra law enforcement officers available.
Over the past few weeks around Indiana and other states, several threats related to school violence have been made verbally and through social media posts. Reed says making threats, even as a joke or exaggeration, can result in criminal charges, legal action and long term school consequences for those involved.
Reed asks parents and guardians to please discuss this with your students at home so they understand the implications of making threats.
Reed says school officials also encourage all students and parents to report any threats or concerning behavior to school administration or local law enforcement. He says by working together, we can ensure a safe and respectful learning environment for all students.
