COLDWATER – The Branch County Sheriff's Department is warning the public about a phone scam that is happening.
In a post on their Facebook page, the Sheriff's Department says several residents have received a call from someone, claiming to be an investigator with the Branch County Sheriff's Department. The caller tells the individuals that there is an outstanding warrant against them, then tries to have the victim go get a money card to pay the bond against them.
The Sheriff's Department says they will never call someone on the phone and tell them they have a warrant against them. They will also not ask someone to get a money card to pay a bond.
If you ever get a phone call like this and question it's authenticity, hang up and call the Branch County Sheriff's Department at 517-278-2325.
