CALVIN TOWNSHIP – A suspect is in custody following a weekend shooting incident.
Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke says his department was called to the 19,000 block of Chain Lake Street just after 9:30 AM Sunday, where they found a 34 year old woman had been shot, and the suspect had fled the scene.
The woman was initially treated at the scene and then flown to South Bend Memorial Hospital. Her condition is unknown.
An alert was issued for the suspect. Deputies were notified the suspect had been located after crashing his vehicle in Goshen. The individual was detained by the Goshen Police for the shooting incident and for criminal charges stemming from an investigation by the Goshen Police.
The suspect's name is not being released until he is arraigned in Cass County District Court. The matter is still under investigation.
Assisting deputies were the Penn Township Fire Department, Pride Care Ambulance, Michigan State Police and Med Flight.
