Monday, October 19, 2020

PARK TOWNSHIP – Authorities are searching for a man following a pursuit in St. Joseph County.

Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says his deputies attempted to make a traffic stop Friday at 8:10 AM on U.S. 131 near Heimbach Road in Park Township on maroon Ford pick up for speeding. The pick up drove away heading south on U.S. 131, then veered into a field near Cowling Road and became stuck.

The man who was driving the vehicle ran away as did his female passenger.

The woman resisted deputies who used a taser to subdue her. She was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on multiple charges.

The male suspect was not located, and is believed to have stolen a maroon GMC Yukon from a residence in the 14,000 block of Bullock Road in Fabius Township around 9 AM. That vehicle was later found abandoned in Kalamazoo. Further investigation determined the pick up the suspect had been driving was reported stolen out of Mecosta County.

Police searched the stolen pick up and found a handgun and narcotics. Deputies believe they know the identity of the male suspect, and are continuing to search for him.

Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, the White Pigeon and Three Rivers Police Departments and the Three Rivers Fire Department. If anyone has information on this investigation, they are asked to contact Deputy Pete Vandenbrink at 269-467-9045, extension 325.
