It was announced earlier this week that Williams County Sheriff, Steve Towns announced his resignation as part of a negotiated non-prosecution agreement to avoid being charged with three felony counts of theft in office.
The charges are in addition to Towns’ conviction in November for public dissemination online of confidential information related to a child abuse case.
Towns remains on probation in that misdemeanor case, with 180 days of jail time suspended.
