Private Wells In Mendon To Be Tested For PFAS
Friday, December 13, 2019

Some private wells in the Village of Mendon will be tested for
PFAS.

In a media release, Paul Andriacchi, Director of Environmental Health for the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency says the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Energy, Great Lakes and Environment are handling the matter.

Andriacchi says a contamination site was found in Mendon which was tested for PFAS. When the results came back very high, several monitoring wells were created. Village officials also built a municipal water system and in doing so, found that multiple homes in Mendon still had private wells.
Two wells have been sampled according to Andriacchi and ten more have been identified for sampling. He says two homeowners have refused sampling so far.

The results of the samplings are still not known. Andriacchi says if those homes do have elevated PFAS levels, the CHA will work with the State of Michigan to have water filters and bottled water to those individuals until a different and acceptable water source can be provided.
