At approximately 5:38 P.M. on Wednesday afternoon, a 2011 Ford F150 was traveling south on I-69 around mile marker 339. It was there that 72-year-old Kenneth Heyerly of Decatur, Indiana stated he attempted to go out around a semi that was in the driving lane.
Heyerly advised he did not see a second vehicle in the passing lane until he started to move he then corrected back into his lane. The second vehicle, a 2003 Honda Civic driven by a 17-year-old Lauren Taylor of Angola stated she saw Heyerly coming into her lane.
She attempted to move out of the way, but lost control of her vehicle. Her vehicle then crossed paths with Heyerly's, causing both vehicles to start to spin. Both vehicles traveled off the east side of Interstate 69 going down a ditch line rolling through a fence and coming to rest on an easement road.
Both parties involved were treated on the scene by Parkview DeKalb EMS for minor cuts and scrapes, but no significant injuries were suffered in the crash that is still under investigation.
Assisting on the scene were Ashley Pd, Waterloo Pd, Ashley Fire, and Steuben EMS.
