The Steuben County Sheriff's Office received information from Steuben County Coroner Bill Harter that the driver involved in the fatal crash on SR 327 north of US 20 that occurred back on September 1st has been positively identified by DNA.
Sheriff's Deputies had initially responded to that area on a report of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Initial investigation indicated that a southbound tan colored Ford SUV left the west side of the SR 327 colliding with a tree which caused the vehicle to catch fire.
The driver, identified as 45 year old Adam L. Stephens of Angola, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Steuben County Coroner's Office.
The Coroner's Office has ruled Stephens' death accidental. Stephens died as a result of a combination of blunt force trauma and full thickness thermal burns.
