Old Skeletal Remains In Sturgis May Be Original Area Settlers

On July 9th human skeletal remains were found in the area of South Nottawa St and Bogen Road in the City of Sturgis. After investigation with assistance from Michigan State Police Crime Lab and Western Michigan University Anthropology Unit, the remains were taken for further examination including carbon dating.

Upon further investigation, additional remains were been found at the same site and are being collected for examination. According to a release it is possible, according to historical records, the remains may be of original settlers to Sturgis.

Research at the site is on-going as local officials try and determine if this is in fact accurate, and if there happens to be any Civil War connections with a possible burial site.
