UNDATED – Two men were arrested in two separate police pursuits over the weekend.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says during the evening hours on Friday, his deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for a stop sign violation near the intersection of Dickinson Road and Burke Road in Mottville Township.

The vehicle led deputies on a pursuit of several miles that finally ended in the 69,000 block of Blue School Road. The driver, a 40 year old man, got out of the vehicle and ran away, but was apprehended after a short chase. The man was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing police, possession of methamphetamine along with several outstanding warrants. The White Pigeon Police Department assisted deputies.

Then in the early morning hours on Sunday, Lillywhite says deputies tried to stop a vehicle in the 14,000 block of North River Road in Constantine Township for a speeding violation. The suspect led deputies on a high speed chase through Constantine and Mottville Townships and then into Cass County. The Cass County Sheriff's Department put down Stop Sticks which took out some tires on the automobile. The suspect tried to hit a police vehicle before his automobile came to a stop in a field and then he ran away.

Officers searched the area and found a barefoot 32 year old Constantine man. He was arrested for assaulting a police officer with a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding, and resisting and obstructing police. Assisting deputies were the White Pigeon Police Department, the Edwardsburg Police Department and the Southeast Public Safety Authority.
